What is a NTL Application to the Home Office

Guidelines, Immigration Tips

What is the NTL Application?

If you have been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK or Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE) you are not subject to immigration control and can apply for a No Time Limit application to the Home Office to transfer your indefinite leave to remain to a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) Card.

This means a successful application will transfer your ILR endorsement (ILR) or (ILE) status onto a new indefinite leave via a BRP Card. Your new NTL BRP Card will contain important biometric information, personal details, including your status in the UK with the grant of indefinite leave to remain or No Time Limit. It will also contain your photograph, date of birth and fingerprints. It is similar to a National ID card or even a driving licence. It is an extremely useful document especially for employers and your ILR has not been expired if your ILR or ILE stamp is endorsed into a old passport.

You may wish after being issued with a NTL application to apply to change your nationality status to British status by way of naturalisation as a British citizen, subject to meeting the necessary requirements.

What is the difference between no time limit (NTL) and indefinite leave to remain?

A No Time Limit, sometimes referred as a NTL stamp application falls under the same category as a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). A No Time Limit stamp is actually the ‘old’ way Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) used to be granted with new applications for ILR, you will be given a Biometric Residence Permit.

Who cannot make a NTL application?

If you are an EEA National and their family members with settled status or permanent residence in the UK, it is not possible to transfer your leave to a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). Instead, they would need to secure their rights and stay in the UK, under the EU Settlement Scheme. EEA nationals who were granted ILR under the Immigration Rules in place prior to 30 April 2006, are eligible to make a NTL application/ntl stamp

What is the NTL application process?

You will need to apply online (UK visa) and submit your online application form via the Home Office Application portal to submit your application and pay the relevant fee. We offer a fixed price service and have expert UK immigration lawyer (s) to assist with your application for a NTL endorsement of your NTL BRP card.

How much is the Application Fee to Transfer an ILR to a BRP?

The Home Office fees for a NTL application is currently £229.00, plus £19.20 for the biometric fingerprint fee. You may need to also pay a separate fee for booking an appointment. If you want a faster decision you can pay an extra £800 for the Super Priority Service. You will receive a decision the next working day.
