What is a NTL (No Time Limit) Application?
If you have been granted Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK or Indefinite Leave to Enter (ILE), but have not yet applied for do not have a Biometric Residence Permit, a NTL application to the Home Office should be made to transfer your indefinite leave to remain (ILR) or (ILE) to transferred with a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) Card.
What is the difference between no time limit and indefinite leave to remain?
A No Time Limit application falls under the same category as a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP). A No Time Limit stamp is actually the ‘old’ way Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) used to be granted with new applications for ILR, you will be given a Biometric Residence Permit.
What documents are required for a NTL (No Time Limit) Application:
- You will need to provide evidence of your identity such as a Passport or ID Card
- You may have your passport or previous passport endorsed with Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) or Indefinite leave to Enter (ILE)
- You may have an old Home Office letter confirming the grant of your ILR or Immigration Status. The Home Office may also request any further documents if required.

How much is the Application Fee to Transfer an ILR to a BRP
The application fee for a NTL application is currently £161.00, plus £19.20 for the biometric fingerprint fee. You may need to also pay a separate fee for booking an appointment. If you want a faster decision you can pay an extra £800 for the Super Priority Service. You will receive a decision the next working day. There is no fee payable towards the Immigration Health Surcharge, known as the NHS charge

Applications for NTL must be made in the UK on the NTL Application form and needs a fee. The application form must be accomplished online, and you will require having your biometrics taken.

A NTL is also known as No Time Limit. This means that you are free from immigration restrictions and have the right to live and work in the UK. Once your application is successful you will be issued with a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) Card.

The current Home Office NTL application fee is £229. You can however pay an extra £800 for a fast track decision.
In general terms it can take up to 6 months. Majority of NTL applications are decided in 6-8 weeks. If you pay extra fee of £800.00 it will normally be decided in 24 hours.
