What is a UK Immigration Civil Partnership Visa?

A Civil Partnership Visa UK application allows the applicant – non-British partners to live and work in the UK to join their Civil Partner (Sponsor) to the UK. Their Sponsor must be a British citizen or a person present and settled in the UK, with indefinite leave to remain in the UK. It is also possible for applicant’s to join their Civil Partner who has limited leave to remain in the UK.

What are the Civil Partnership Visa UK Requirements?

In order to qualify you will need to satisfy and meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must have a valid application for entry clearance and must not fall for refusal under any suitability grounds
  • The applicant be overseas and attend a appointment to submit their passport and provide their biometric
  • Your partner is British, holds indefinite leave to remain or limited leave to remain in the UK
  • You are both over the age of 18;
  • You have met in person and have entered into a civil partnership marriage to be recognised as legally married;
  • Your relationship is genuine and you intend to live together permanently;
  • Any previous relationships have broken down permanently and you are not in a relationship with anyone else
  • You will be adequately maintained in the UK without recourse to public funds;
  • There is adequate accommodation for you and any dependents;
  • You speak and understand English to the required level.
  • Have a valid TB Certificate and
  • You can meet the financial requirement of £18,600 to demonstrate you will not have recourse to public funds. The minimum financial requirement is higher if they are also sponsoring dependent children to come to the UK

How long does the Process Take to be issued with a Civil Partnership Visa UK Application?

Do I need to pay for the Immigration Health Surcharge?

All applicant (s) need to pay the UK NHS Surcharge, which is a separate fee from the visa application fee of £1,538 in order to be issued with a Civil Partnership Visa UK. The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) covers the initial period of the length of the Civil Partnership Visa UK of 33 months and is currently £1,560. 

How long is a Civil Partnership Visa UK Valid For?

Your initial visa will be valid for 2.5 years or 30 months and prior to its expiry, you will be required to apply for a further Civil Partnership extension from inside the UK. If your application is successful you will be granted a further visa for 2.5 years. This is known as the 5 year route under the Immigration rules.

Does a Civil Partnership Visa UK Lead to Settlement?

Once you have completed 5 years as a Civil Partnership of your husband or wife, you will be entitled to eligible to apply for indefinite leave to remain.
