What is a Visitor Visa?

This allows the applicant and their family dependants to enter to the UK for tourism purposes as well as to visit family and friends in the UK. The visit visa is granted for 6 months, 1, 2, 5 or 10 years. The application is usually made in your home country, this will depend on your nationality as certain visa nationals can enter the UK.

What are the Visitor visa requirements?

In order to qualify for a UK Marriage Visitor visa you will need to satisfy and meet the following requirements:

  • The applicant must have a valid application for entry clearance and must not fall for refusal under any suitability grounds
  • The applicant be overseas and attend a appointment to submit their passport and provide their biometric
  • You will leave the UK at the end of your visit
  • You will not live in the UK or intend to overstay
  • You are genuinely a visitor to the UK
  • You have arranged suitable accommodation
  • You have sufficient funds to cover all your trip to the UK, including the cost of your onward and inbound journey without having recourse to public funds

Can I work in the UK on a Visitor Visa?

The applicant is not allowed to work in the UK or study in the UK.

Do I need to pay for the Immigration Health Surcharge?

The applicant is not subject to the UK NHS Surcharge when you apply for a Visit visa to the UK. 

Do I need a Sponsor in the UK?

If you have family in the UK or are visiting friends who have agreed to pay for your flight tickets or arrange suitable accommodation, it is always best to acquire additional supporting documentation.

How long does the Process Take?

On average it can take between 3-4 weeks for an Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) to consider your application and go through your supporting documents to issue you a UK Visitor visa. In some case it can be longer and each case is considered in its own individual merits. In some cases it can take a lot quicker depending on the case worker at the respective British High Commission, Embassy or Consulate

How long is a Visitor Visa Valid For?

Your Visitor visa is valid for 6 months and can be issued for longer than 6 months for a standard visitor visa. The process is online form.

There are several documents that may assist in support of your application for a UK visitor visa. The visitor visa rules require evidence that you will return back to your home country and that you do not intend to stay in the UK. Such evidence may include, proof you have the financial means to cover the cost while in the UK, proof of accommodation, travel itinerary, evidence of family ties or commitments, letter from a employer, bank statements and so on.

UKVI does not state what is acceptable in terms of savings funds. Provided you have sufficient savings to show you will not recourse to public funds or can meet financial requirement, this should be suffice

 If you want to sponsor their visit to the UK you should produce an invitation letter or a Sponsorship Declaration and supporting documents.

The Immigration Rules do not permit someone who enters the UK as a visitor to get married in the UK, unless they have entered on a Marriage Visitor category.

A visitor visa is valid for 6 months and the applicant should enter the UK on the dates stated on their application. Please note, there are some visa national countries who will not require a visa to enter the UK

Do I need to meet the Financial Income requirements of the Immigration rules?

You will need to demonstrate you will have sufficient funds available to cover the cost of your visit and your return journey without recourse to public funds in the UK.

What happens if my application is refused?

If your application is unsuccessful, there is not an automatic right of appeal. However, the decision to refuse can still be challenged by way of judicial review proceedings and issuance of a Pre-action protocol.
