What is a Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa?

The Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa allows applicants from certain nationals namely young adults to enter the UK for holiday and work for a period of two years. This visa category was previously known as the Working Holiday Visa category.

  • British overseas citizen, a British overseas territories citizen or a British national (overseas);

What are the requirements to apply for a Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa?

The Home Office must be satisfied you meet the following requirements:

  • You do not fall for refusal under General grounds for refusal
  • You are aged between 18 and 30 on the date of the application;
  • You are a citizen of Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan, Monaco, Taiwan, the Republic of Korea, or San Marino or are a British overseas citizen, a British overseas territories citizen or a British national (overseas);
  • You have minimum funds of £2,530 which you have held for a 28 day period within the 31 days before your application;
  • You do not have any children under 18 who are living with you or are financially dependent on you;
  • You have not previously been in the UK on the Youth Mobility Scheme route;
  • You have taken a valid TB test, if required

Which are the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa Supporting Documents?

You will need to provide:

  • A valid passport or other identity and nationality document
  • Evidence of bank statements showing you have at least minimum of funds of £2,530 in savings
  • Your Tuberculosis (TB) test results, if required
  • You would need to provide a certified translation of any documents that are not in English or Welsh
  • You may need to provide additional documents depending on your circumstances.

Can dependants apply under the Tier 5 Youth Mobility Visa?

Unfortunately dependants are not eligible to apply.

Is there a fee towards the Immigration Health Surcharge?

You will also have to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge at the time of making the application, to cover the relevant visa period (2 years). The Immigration Health Surcharge is now £1,035 per visa holder per year,

Does this route lead to Settlement in the UK?

The Tier 5 youth mobility visa is a temporary visa and does not lead to settlement in this visa category.

Does the Tier 5 youth mobility visa allow you to switch into a different visa category?
